Vale Path Volunteers Keep Penn Lane Open for All
A big thank you goes to the Vale Path Volunteers (VPV), the path maintenance team of the Vale of White Horse Ramblers, for their recent work clearing overhanging vegetation along Penn Lane, the popular bridleway connecting north Abingdon with Sunningwell.
Over several volunteer sessions, the team successfully cut back approximately 450 metres of encroaching vegetation, helping to keep this well-used route accessible and enjoyable for walkers, horse riders, cyclists and other path users. Their efforts have improved visibility, widened the usable path, and helped ensure that Penn Lane remains a welcoming and safe countryside link for the local community.
The work also marked an important milestone for the volunteers, who recently acquired a new battery-powered, high-reach hedge trimmer. The equipment was purchased with the support of an £800 grant from Trust for Oxfordshire’s Environment (TOE), enabling the team to tackle overgrown vegetation more efficiently and safely than ever before.
